Project Gorgon Crossbow Guide: Offhand Ranged DPS
Crossbow in Project Gorgon is a sidebar combat skill that adds ranged burst damage on top of your 2 main weapon skills. You must equip a crossbow in your Offhand to use it, and most abilities consume Beginner’s Dense Arrows. It deals solid damage with longer cooldowns, which makes it best for controlled burst instead of constant spam.
If you want extra ranged pressure without giving up your main setup, Crossbow fits that role.
How Crossbow Actually Functions In Combat
Crossbow is not a primary weapon line like Archery. It sits on the sidebar, which means you can run it alongside 2 main combat skills.
Most Crossbow abilities fire a bolt that consumes a Beginner’s Dense Arrow. Cooldowns are longer compared to many core weapon skills, so timing matters. You use Crossbow to spike damage, apply specific damage types, or punish enemies at range while your main skills cycle.
It is currently the only sidebar skill used purely for damage.
Trainers And Level Unlock Path
You unlock and expand Crossbow through specific NPCs as you level.
Bellema Deftwhisper teaches the skill and unlocks levels 51 to 60
Floxie unlocks levels 61 to 70 and 71 to 80
Serendipity Cheddar unlocks levels 81 to 90 deep beneath Povus
Bellema requires Comfortable favor before she will teach you. She also teaches most of the core abilities.
Core Crossbow Abilities
As you level Crossbow, you unlock several bolt types. Each one has a different damage type and purpose.
Shoot Crossbow
This is your basic ranged attack. It deals Piercing damage and scales through multiple ranks up to level 60.
It is simple and reliable. Use it when you just need clean ranged damage.
Knockback Bolt
Deals Slashing damage. It uses a broad tipped bolt.
This is useful for control and spacing. If you need to push enemies away or create distance, this is the tool.
Fiery Bolt
Deals Fire damage.
Good against enemies weak to Fire. It gives you a way to diversify damage types without swapping your main weapon skills.
Acid Bolt
Deals Acid damage and damages Armor.
This is one of the most valuable bolts in tougher fights. Acid damage destroys enemy Armor, which lowers their mitigation and increases the effectiveness of all follow up direct damage.
Higher ranks of these abilities unlock through the 50s and up, with Shoot Crossbow 7 unlocking at level 60.
Ammo And Crafting Support
Crossbow abilities consume Beginner’s Dense Arrows. You need Fletching to craft the arrows that Crossbow uses.
If you plan to main Crossbow as a serious damage layer, you should level Fletching. Running out of ammo mid dungeon is not a good time.
Synergy Bonuses That Matter
Crossbow gains Bonus Synergy Levels from several related skills.
Archery at levels 32 and 58
Fletching at levels 21, 34, and 53
Gadgeteering at levels 15 and 45
If you are investing in ranged or crafting support skills, these synergy bonuses give Crossbow extra scaling. Archery pairs especially well if you want a full ranged pressure setup.
Crossbow Equipment Options
There are many crossbows available, ranging from Practice Crossbow and Stock Crossbow to higher tier options like Black Rose, Demonic Crossbow, Speed Crossbow, and Crossbow of Flames.
Different crossbows vary in stats and modifiers. Some are general hunting upgrades, while others lean toward themed damage or special bonuses. Always compare stat rolls and enchantment potential instead of assuming the name alone means better performance.
When To Run Crossbow In Your Build
Crossbow works best in builds that benefit from ranged burst or damage type flexibility.
It pairs well with melee skills that struggle to close gaps. You can open with Acid Bolt to shred Armor, then switch to your main weapons while the target is weaker. It also helps casters who want extra physical damage without committing to Archery as a main skill.
Because of its longer cooldowns, Crossbow rewards planning. Fire it during key windows instead of pressing it on cooldown every time.
If you treat it as a damage amplifier instead of a replacement for your main skills, Crossbow becomes a strong and flexible addition to many combat setups in Project Gorgon.
