Project Gorgon Calligraphy Guide: Sword Combos Explained

Project Gorgon Calligraphy Guide: Sword Combos Explained

Calligraphy in Project Gorgon is a crafting skill that creates temporary combat combos and passive insights, mainly for Sword users. When you craft a Calligraphy recipe, it activates a buff that changes how specific Sword ability sequences behave. Only 1 regular Calligraphy combo can be active at a time, and it lasts 1 hour unless extended with a Calligraphy Bench.

If you are running Sword and wondering why you only see 1 combo at a time, that is how the system is designed.

What Calligraphy Actually Does

Calligraphy lets you write specific recipes that grant a temporary buff. That buff does 2 things.

  • It unlocks a special combo if you use abilities in the exact listed order

  • It may grant a passive insight like bonus slashing damage or improved healing

The combo only triggers if you follow the exact sequence shown in the recipe. If you press the abilities in the wrong order, nothing special happens.

Your currently active Calligraphy effect shows up in your Buffs. The most recent recipe you crafted becomes the active one.

Why Only One Combo Works At A Time

Regular Calligraphy recipes overwrite each other. That means if you craft Pain and then craft Breath, Breath replaces Pain.

You can only have 1 regular Calligraphy combo active at a time. The buff lasts 1 hour.

Calligraphy Benches created through Carpentry increase the duration of that active effect. If you want longer uptime before farming or running dungeons, use a bench first.

Secret Recipes And How They Stack

Secret Calligraphy recipes are different from regular ones. These are usually obtained as loot.

Secret recipes give passive bonuses, like Sword Damage percent increases or Piercing Damage bonuses. They do not replace your regular combo recipe. However, secret recipes overwrite each other.

This means you can have:

  • 1 regular Calligraphy combo active

  • 1 secret passive recipe active

But you cannot stack multiple secret recipes together.

How It Supports Sword And Knife Fighting

Calligraphy is a secondary skill for Sword. Many recipes require exact Sword abilities like Sword Slash, Many Cuts, Parry, Wind Strike, Finishing Blow, Hacking Blade, Heart Piercer, or Decapitate.

For example, a recipe might require Sword Slash plus Sword Slash plus Many Cuts in that order. The final hit then gains extra damage or added effects.

Knife Fighting does not gain special combo triggers from Calligraphy. However, it can benefit from passive bonuses like Slashing or Piercing damage increases.

If you are using Sword as a main skill, Calligraphy becomes a strong damage amplifier.

Example Combo Types You Can Unlock

Different recipes change what the final ability in a chain does. Some common effects include:

  • Extra direct damage on the final step

  • Area of effect damage within 5 or 8 meters

  • Healing Health, Power, or Armor

  • Rage reduction

  • Damage over time effects like bleed, poison, or trauma

  • Large burst damage on advanced combos

Higher level recipes introduce stronger effects like 200 extra damage on specific 4 skill chains or heavy bleed damage over time.

The key is precision. If the recipe says Wind Strike plus Sword Slash plus Parry plus Finishing Blow, you must press them in that exact order.

How To Level Calligraphy

Calligraphy is a crafting skill. You level it by crafting recipes.

Trainers raise your skill cap:

  • Sammie Grimspine in Serbule Hills introduces Calligraphy

  • Ufkar in Rahu raises the cap from 51 to 60

  • Liamu the Watchful in Vidaria raises the cap from 61 to 70

You gain experience by crafting new recipes and repeating them.

Synergies That Improve Calligraphy

Calligraphy gains Bonus Synergy Levels from:

  • Bladesmithing at levels 60 and 80

  • Geology at level 40

  • Nature Appreciation at level 20

  • Non Fiction Writing at level 15

  • Sigil Scripting at levels 10, 30, and 50

Sigil Scripting is especially related, since both skills rely on specialized inks.

Practical Advice For Using Calligraphy

Before heading out to farm, craft the specific combo you want active. Check your Buffs to confirm it is running.

If you want pure damage, pick a recipe that boosts Direct Slashing Damage percent or adds heavy burst to a common Sword chain. If you want sustain, use recipes that heal Health, Armor, or Power on combo completion.

Calligraphy rewards planning. Pick a combo that matches how you already play Sword. If you constantly use Sword Slash into Many Cuts, choose a recipe that upgrades that chain.

Used correctly, Calligraphy turns Sword from steady damage into controlled burst with layered passives. It is not flashy at first glance, but at higher levels it becomes one of the strongest damage amplifiers available to Sword builds in Project Gorgon.
