Project Gorgon Necromancer Guide: Necromancy Skill Explained

Necromancy in Project Gorgon is a combat skill focused on controlling undead minions and using dark magic abilities. To use Necromancy at all, you must equip an item with a Necromancy Gem and you cannot have a Holy Symbol equipped. The skill revolves around skeleton summons, damage over time effects, and control through pets rather than direct burst damage.

If you want a pet focused combat style with strong utility and flexible damage types, Necromancy is one of the deepest skills in the game.

What Necromancy Is In Project Gorgon

Necromancy is a combat skill that allows you to summon undead creatures and manipulate dark damage effects. Most of its power comes from minions, debuffs, and sustained pressure rather than fast kills.

Necromancy requires setup. You must manage pets, positioning, and resources like Necromancy Dust. It rewards planning more than button spam.

Requirements To Use Necromancy

To activate Necromancy abilities, you must meet two conditions.

  • You must equip a weapon or armor piece with a Necromancy Gem

  • You must not have a Holy Symbol equipped

If either condition is not met, Necromancy abilities will not work. Beast forms cannot use weapon based Necromancy Gems, but armor based gems still function.

How To Unlock Necromancy

Necromancy is unlocked inside the Serbule Crypt. You must defeat Khyrulek’s True Form and deliver a dropped item to the Pulsing Crystal.

After completing this step, you receive a Necromancy Test Staff and a Necromancy Test Necklace. You only need to equip one of these to begin using the skill.

This unlock process is mandatory and cannot be skipped.

Necromancy Summoning Basics

Most skeleton summoning abilities require Necromancy Dust, which is created through a level 2 recipe. Without dust, summon abilities cannot be used.

Skeletons can be summoned in designated graveyards. Some fixed graveyard locations always allow summoning, but player made graveyards also work if at least 3 player tombstones are close together.

Once summoned, skeletons persist across zones and will resummon automatically when you change areas.

Graveyard Locations That Always Work

There are several static locations where skeleton summoning always works.

  • Entrance to Serbule Crypt

  • Circular room inside Serbule Crypt before the Nameless Guardian hallway

  • Graveyard north of Eltibule’s central keep

  • A room inside the PvP Dungeon

  • The Fae Realm

These locations are reliable for testing and maintaining pets.

Necromancy Trainers And Level Unlocks

Necromancy progression is split across several trainers.

Early abilities and levels are taught by Sir Arif and Jumjab. Daniel Murderdark unlocks levels 51 through 70 and teaches higher level abilities.

Bendith the Banished unlocks levels 71 through 80. Levels 81 through 90 are unlocked by Reinath deep beneath Povus.

Necromancy currently caps at level 90.

Necromancy Sub Skills And Related Skills

Necromancy has two sub skills.

  • Corpse Talking

  • Paleontology

It does not use secondary skills, but it synergizes extremely well with many other combat skills.

Strong Skill Pairings With Necromancy

Necromancy pairs well with skills that benefit from indirect damage, debuffs, or pet support.

Common combinations include Battle Chemistry for mutations and damage variety, Fire Magic for indirect fire synergy, and Mentalism for electric damage setups. Spirit Fox and Vampirism work well for dark damage builds.

Weather Witching is one of the strongest pairings, as Doomstorms count as undead minions and benefit from Necromancy pet bonuses.

Sword, Warden, and Archery based hybrids also work depending on mods and gear.

Synergy Levels That Boost Necromancy

You can gain bonus synergy levels for Necromancy by leveling other skills.

These include Dying, Giant Bat, Paleontology, Spirit Fox, Undead Anatomy, Incorporeal Creature Anatomy, and Vampirism. Each provides synergy at specific levels.

Synergy matters because it improves scaling and interaction with mods.

Necromancy Equipment Overview

Necromancy is enabled by specific weapons, armor pieces, rings, and focuses that contain Necromancy Gems. These items allow the skill to function and often enhance damage or pet effectiveness.

Both weapons and armor can enable Necromancy. Armor based gems are especially important for beast forms.

Belts also provide strong bonuses that pair Necromancy with other combat skills, such as Fire Magic, Mentalism, Archery, or Unarmed.

How Necromancy Plays In Combat

Necromancy is slower than burst focused skills. You set up pets, apply debuffs, and let sustained damage do the work.

Skeletons help absorb damage, apply pressure, and cover weaknesses in damage types. Positioning matters, especially when managing multiple minions.

This makes Necromancy very strong for solo play and methodical encounters.

Who Necromancy Is Best For

Necromancy is best for players who enjoy pet management, build planning, and long fights. It shines in solo content and controlled group play.

If you want fast clears and instant damage, this is not the skill for you. If you like preparation and control, Necromancy delivers.
