Project Gorgon: How To Tame A Horse

Taming a horse in Project Gorgon requires the Riding skill, a grown horse apple, and a wild horse in the open world. You must unlock Riding first, grow a horse apple from a seed, then use it on a wild horse to attempt a tame. If successful, the horse becomes your permanent mount.

Taming is separate from buying a horse from Mythander. This method gives you control over traits and is the intended path for players who want to build better mounts later through breeding.

Note: If you’re looking for a full guide on how to get a horse, we have that guide here

What You Need Before Attempting A Tame

Before you try to tame a horse, make sure you meet these requirements:

  • Riding skill unlocked

  • At least 1 grown horse apple

  • Access to a wild horse in an appropriate level zone

Riding can be unlocked either by paying Mythander or by completing the Learning the Ways of Horses quest from petting 10 wild horses.

Horse apples are grown from horse apple seedlings. Gardening level 6 is sufficient, and horse apples require water only. Fertilizer is not required.

Where Horse Apple Seeds Come From

Horse apple seedlings come from 2 main sources.

  • Learning the Ways of Horses quest reward

  • Horse Thief events

Horse Thief events occur at 1:00 am and 1:00 pm in game time in fixed locations across most zones. They last 55 real world minutes unless cleared earlier by players. Rahu does not have a Horse Thief event.

The event itself is not required for taming. It is simply a reliable source of more seedlings.

Step By Step Taming Process

Once you have Riding and at least 1 grown horse apple, follow these steps:

  • Find a wild horse in the open world

  • Interact with the horse and pet it to view its traits

  • Use a horse apple on the horse

  • If the attempt succeeds, the horse becomes yours

Taming is not guaranteed. If the attempt fails, the horse apple is consumed.

Higher level zones require higher Riding to tame local breeds. If your Riding is too low for that region, the tame will fail. New players should start in Serbule or Serbule Hills.

What Happens After A Successful Tame

After a successful tame, the horse is added to your stable and can be used immediately.

You can manage horses through the Mount Window while near a stable. Stablemasters like Gizley in Serbule Keep allow you to organize and switch active mounts.

Only 1 horse can be active at a time.

Systems That Do Not Affect Basic Taming

The following systems do not affect the initial tame attempt:

  • Animal Husbandry

  • Genetics or Ungulate Genetics

  • Horse breeding traits

  • Equipment like saddles or reins

These systems matter later for optimization and breeding, not for claiming your first wild horse.

Final Notes On Horse Taming

Horse taming in Project Gorgon rewards preparation and knowledge of the world. Unlock Riding first, grow horse apples correctly, and start in lower level zones to avoid wasted attempts. Once you understand the loop, taming becomes reliable and repeatable, and it opens the door to better trait hunting later.
