Project Gorgon: How To Tame A Horse

Horse taming in Project Gorgon is a separate process from buying a horse. Taming requires the Riding skill, a grown horse apple, and a wild horse.

Wild horses exist throughout the open world and do not require an event to be present in order to be tamed.

Note: If you’re looking for a full guide on how to get a horse, we have that guide here

Requirements To Tame A Horse

Before attempting to tame a horse, you must meet these conditions:

  • Riding skill unlocked

  • Horse apple grown from a horse apple seed

  • Access to a wild horse

Horse apple seeds are commonly obtained from Horse Thieves events, but the event itself is not required for taming.

Gardening level 6 and fertilizer are required to grow horse apples from seeds.

Where Horse Apple Seeds Come From

Horse apple seeds primarily drop from Horse Thieves events that occur at 1:00 am and 1:00 pm in game time.

Common locations include:

  • Serbal Hills, south of the logging camps

  • West of Serbule Keep

These events also sometimes drop a horse breeding primer, but this is not required for taming.

How To Tame A Horse Step By Step

Once you have Riding and a horse apple, taming is straightforward:

  • Find a wild horse in the open world

  • Interact with the horse and pet it to view its traits

  • Use a horse apple on the horse

  • If the attempt succeeds, the horse becomes your mount

Taming is not guaranteed on every attempt. Failed attempts consume the horse apple.

What Happens After A Successful Tame

A successfully tamed horse is added to your stable and can be used immediately as a mount.

You can manage horses at any stable, with Gizley in Serbule Keep being one of the earliest accessible stablemasters.

Only the horse at the top of your stable list is currently equipped.

What Does NOT Affect Horse Taming

The following systems do not affect basic horse taming:

  • Animal Husbandry

  • Genetics or Ungulate Genetics

  • Horse breeding

  • Riding skill level beyond unlocking Riding

These systems become relevant later for breeding and optimization, not for the initial tame.

Key Clarifications To Avoid Errors

  • Horse Thieves events are not required to tame horses

  • Wild horses can be tamed outside events

  • Horses are tamed using horse apples, not random food

  • Genetics do not matter for initial taming

  • Riding must be unlocked before taming

Final Notes On Horse Taming

Horse taming in Project Gorgon is designed to reward preparation rather than combat or luck. Once you understand where horse apples come from and how to use them, taming becomes repeatable and reliable.

Buying a horse is optional. Taming is the intended system for players who want control over traits and future breeding.
