Project Gorgon: How To Get A Horse

Getting a horse in Project Gorgon requires unlocking the Riding skill and then either buying a horse from Mythander or taming one with a horse apple. You can unlock Riding by paying 3000 councils in Eltibule or by completing the quest Learning the Ways of Horses from petting 10 wild horses. Once Riding is unlocked, mounts become available immediately.

Mounts are linked directly to the Riding skill, not your character level. You earn access through training, quests, and world interaction instead of simple progression. That fits the game’s design perfectly.

How To Unlock The Riding Skill

Riding for humanoid characters is taught by Mythander in Hogan’s Keep in Eltibule. He offers two paths to unlock the skill.

  • Pay 3000 councils

  • Complete the Mystery Rocks quest

Mystery Rocks requires level 15 Mining and clearing a dungeon in Eltibule. After unlocking Riding, Mythander also sells a standard horse for 3000 councils and unlocks Riding levels 51 to 60 along with abilities like Gallop and Gentle Horse.

You can start using a purchased horse immediately after learning Riding.

Free Method: Petting Wild Horses

If you want to avoid spending councils, interact with wild horses in the open world. After petting enough of them, you receive the quest Learning the Ways of Horses.

This quest requires petting 10 wild horses. Completing it unlocks Riding and rewards Riding experience plus horse apple seedlings. This method is completely free and is often the best early option.

Growing Horse Apples For Taming

Horse apple seedlings come from the Learning the Ways of Horses quest or from Horse Thief events. These seedlings must be planted in a Gardening area.

Gardening level 6 is sufficient. Horse apples require water only and do not need fertilizer.

Once grown, a horse apple can be used on a wild horse to attempt taming. If the tame succeeds, the horse becomes your permanent mount.

Higher level zones require higher Riding to tame local horses successfully. New players should start in Serbule or Serbule Hills.

Horse Thief Events Explained

Horse Thief events occur at 1:00 am and 1:00 pm in game time in fixed locations across most zones. They last 55 real world minutes unless cleared earlier by players. Rahu does not have a Horse Thief event.

These events reward horse apple seedlings and other mount related items. The event itself is not required to tame a horse, but it is a reliable way to get more seedlings.

What Unlocking Riding Actually Gives You

When Riding is unlocked, the Lope ability becomes available automatically. A mount icon appears on your interface, opening the Mount Window.

From the Mount Window you can:

  • Mount and dismount

  • Equip saddles, reins, saddlebags, and horseshoes

  • Access saddlebag storage outside dungeons

  • View horse stats and anxiety

Riding experience is earned by riding near enemies in dangerous areas and escaping safely without being knocked off. It does not gain experience from combat directly.

Higher Riding levels improve mount control, reduce anxiety buildup, and increase survivability while mounted.

Riding Progression Beyond Level 50

After level 50 Riding, additional trainers unlock higher tiers.

  • Levels 61 to 70 are unlocked by Pasha in Ilmari

  • Levels 71 to 80 are unlocked by Backfat in the Fae Realm

These unlock stronger Riding abilities and better mount handling.

Buying Versus Taming

Buying from Mythander is the fastest method. Taming with horse apples gives you control over traits and future breeding options through Animal Husbandry later.

Both methods are valid. Most players unlock Riding through the free quest and then decide whether to buy or tame based on councils and goals.

Final Thoughts On Getting Your First Horse

Your first horse is a major mobility upgrade in Project Gorgon. Unlock Riding through Mythander or by petting wild horses, then buy or tame depending on your resources. Start in lower level zones, level Riding through exploration, and upgrade your tack as you progress. Once you have a mount, travel opens up fast and the game feels much smoother.
