OSRS: What Can Autocast Ancient Magicks
Only specific magic weapons in OSRS can autocast spells from the Ancient Magicks spellbook. If you want to autocast Ice Barrage, Blood Barrage, or any other Ancient combat spell, you must be using one of the supported staves or wands. If a weapon does not support Ancients, the autocast option will not appear at all.
This guide explains exactly which weapons can autocast Ancient Magicks and how autocasting actually works in real gameplay.
Weapons That Can Autocast Ancient Magicks
The following weapons are able to autocast spells from the Ancient Magicks spellbook. These weapons can also autocast standard spellbook combat spells.
Ancient staff
Ancient sceptre Smoke
Ancient sceptre Shadow
Ancient sceptre Blood
Ancient sceptre Ice
Thammaron’s sceptre (a)
Accursed sceptre (a)
Ahrim’s staff
Blue moon spear
Master wand
Dragon hunter wand
Kodai wand
Nightmare staff
Eldritch nightmare staff
Volatile nightmare staff
If a staff is not on this list, it cannot autocast Ancient Magicks.
How Autocasting Ancients Works
Autocasting lets your character automatically cast the selected Ancient spell every time you attack. You set the spell once in the combat interface, and it keeps casting as long as you have the required runes and the correct weapon equipped.
The autocast setting stays active unless you die, enter certain PVP areas, or switch to a weapon that cannot autocast the chosen spell. If that happens, you will need to set it again.
Only combat spells can be autocast. Teleports, alchemy spells, curses, and enchantments cannot be autocast from any spellbook.
Why Most Staves Cannot Autocast Ancients
Most staves in OSRS are limited to the standard spellbook. Even strong or expensive staves will not autocast Ancient Magicks unless they are specifically designed to support that spellbook.
This is why items like the Ancient staff, Master wand, and Kodai wand are commonly used for burst and barrage training. They are some of the few weapons that fully support Ancient autocasting and make high level Magic training practical.
Choosing the Right Staff for Ancient Spells
For early Ancient Magicks use, the Ancient staff is the simplest option. For serious training or combat, the Master wand and Kodai wand are preferred due to accuracy and damage bonuses.
If your goal is efficient Ice Barrage or Blood Barrage casting, always double check that your weapon supports Ancient autocast before heading into combat. If it does not, your spells will not fire automatically at all.
